My Personal Philosophy of Christian Education

My journey into Christian education was as unexpected as it was transformative. As a quiet child, I never imagined myself standing in front of a classroom. Teaching? That was for someone louder, more confident. But God had other plans. My love for teaching began when I started observing older mentors in Sunday school, fascinated by how they turned simple lessons into life-changing truths. Slowly, I found myself stepping into their shoes, joining their training, and eventually becoming a teacher.

What began as a hesitant yes turned into a calling that has anchored my life. A few years ago, that calling expanded as we launched the "Outreach Kids Ministry," a project aimed at bringing biblical truths to street children. What started locally grew beyond our expectations. Today, I lead a team of over 25 teachers, and God has opened doors for us to train other churches in Pasig, Mandaluyong, and Nueva Ecija. It’s not just a ministry anymore, it’s a movement!

I’m also blessed to serve as part of the Pastor’s Kids Association under the International Baptist Missionary Fellowship (IBMF). Through this platform, we organize creative summer camps that combine faith and fun, using unique methods like science experiments to teach biblical principles. To my surprise and gratitude, our work has been recognized in national publications. Yet, these accolades pale in comparison to the joy of seeing a child’s faith ignite for the first time.

To me, Christian education is more than teaching Bible verses or explaining academic concepts. It’s about shaping the whole person: intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. So they reflect Christ in every aspect of their life. It’s about showing students how to live out their faith in the real world, not just in the pages of a textbook.

For the past few years, God has given me the opportunity to explore Christian education abroad, teaching in private Christian schools. These experiences have confirmed what I’ve always known: teaching isn’t just a profession for me, it’s a ministry, a calling, and my way of living out faith in action. Teaching is where I find purpose, joy, and a tangible connection to God’s plan.

Yet, no matter where I’ve gone, my heart has always been pulled back to the Philippines. Every year I spent abroad only deepened my desire to serve full-time in the place I call home. I believe God has been preparing me for something greater here, something that combines my passion for teaching with my love for ministry. Coming home feels like stepping into the next chapter of His plan for me.

Currently, I teach first grade, a role I never envisioned but have come to love. These young, curious minds have taught me as much as I’ve taught them. The flexibility of this role allows me to serve not only my students but also my family and church while pursuing my graduate studies. These studies are not just a pursuit of knowledge; they are a preparation for the future I believe God is leading me toward.

I envision myself taking on an administrative role in Christian education, helping shape the very institution that has nurtured my calling. To get there, I know I need to grow, learn, and equip myself with the skills necessary for this next step. My journey is far from over, and I approach it with a deep hunger to understand more about Christian education, not just for today but for the years to come.

Someday, I hope to publish something significant about this field, a work that contributes to the lives of others and honors the calling God has placed on my life. But for now, I’m focused on learning, growing, and serving. Every lesson I teach, every child I mentor, and every challenge I face is shaping me into the educator and servant God wants me to be.

Christian education is not just a job for me; it’s a ministry that transforms lives, starting with my own. I want to remain faithful to this journey, trusting that every step is part of His plan. With humility and passion, I’m excited to see where God leads me next.
